Artwork "Growth"

€950.00

“Growth” is crafted from a solid cross-section of timber with a natural wavy edge carefully cut and finished to retain the contours of the ash tree. The surface reveals the wood’s natural grain and figuring with visible spalting lines and tonal variation that give it depth and character.

Set into the wood are concentric channels of straw marquetry created from dyed, hand-split and flattened rye straw.

Concept:

“In Growth, the natural rings of the ash tree are revealed and interpreted with straw inhabiting the spaces between each cycle. The piece literally traces the passage of time within the wood, but also serves as a metaphor for human growth - rarely smooth or linear, shaped instead by moments of pause, integration and change. Rather than concealing these intervals, the piece honours them, suggesting that growth happens not only in expansion but in what we absorb and carry between each phase.”

Approximate size: 530mm x 430mm x 30mm

The piece is finished with layers of Danish oil and Renaissance wax.

Handcrafted in Co. Wicklow, Ireland. 2025
